Community Involvement
Home Helpers of Olney, Participating in events in Montgomery and Howard County
October 26, 2023. Home Helpers of Olney staff attended the Montgomery County Summit on Aging. It was a full day of presentations that ended with a Town Hall Listening session. Some of the topics covered were as follows: Montgomery County’s Age Friendly initiatives and its goal to create a Community for a Lifetime, The Maryland Department of Aging’s Vision for the Future, and Designing a Community for Longevity, Caring and Supporting Each Other. It was very interesting to learn that Montgomery County created a task force for the “Direct Care Workforce”, and they are rebranding the name caregiver to be Direct Service Professionals. They are looking to standardize the profession from rate of pay required, benefits, as well as making it easier to move around in the DMV (DC, Maryland, and Virginia) area with their licensing. This will affect the home care agencies in the area, so we will be keeping up with this initiative. It was a very well attended event with past and present County Executives, County councilmembers, Directors from The Maryland Department of Aging, Department of Health and Human Services, AARP, and the community.
October 26, 2023. Home Helpers of Olney and Home Helpers of Hanover attended the fall Howard Community College Job and Internship Fair. We were able to meet with 30 candidates and introduce Home Helpers as a place to seek employment. It was a well planned event and we are looking forward to the next one!
October 18, 2023. Home Helpers of Oney attended a job fair at Montgomery College to recruit caregivers. We talked with several candidates and 4 gave us their information.
