WHAT IS HOME CARE?
Home care services include personal care assistance, companionship, homemaker
services and medication reminders. Home care services are considered non-medical
in nature and therefore are not generally covered by health insurance,
unlike home health care and hospice services. We collaborate with such
medical providers on scheduling and care coordination when they are involved
with our client. Home care services are generally covered by long term
care insurance policies, and we are experienced with, and vetted by, most
insurers in the industry. Our clients include seniors seeking to age in
place in their home (whatever setting “home” might be), those
recovering from an illness, injury, surgery, hospitalization or rehab
stay, and those living with a lifelong disease or disability.
TAILORED HOME CARE ASSISTANCE
No two clients are the same, so we start with an assessment conducted by
a nurse, who ultimately develops a plan of care for our staff to follow.
Home care visits could begin with regularly- scheduled hourly shifts of
4 hours or more, once or twice a week, up to daily. We might also begin
immediately with 24/7 coverage, which is often requested for clients on
hospice, those with dementia, or individuals who are a high fall risk.
Another popular option offered by our agency is live-in care, whereby
a specialized caregiver moves into our client’s home, and offers
significant daytime coverage, plus occasional nighttime assistance, if
warranted. Live-in caregivers generally stay on their assignment for months
on-end, offering tremendous consistency for the care recipient, which
is a huge relief for their loved ones. Our services and plan of care evolve
over time, as our clients’ care needs change.
