Working at Home Helpers for seven years as a caregiver has given me another meaning for the word “Care.” The experience I have gained, and the people I have cared for, have become part of my life. You learn quickly that the love you put into this career changes someone’s life, because they feel the “Care” you have for them. Not always do you only care for them, but also others they love. I cared for client whose cat is a family member and was missing for two days. When the cat was not coming and going as he normally did, I knew something was wrong, so I went searching for him. I found him trapped with his paw stuck in a fence. Without a thought, I jumped the fence and got him free. The reunion was far from small and instead a moment of life for the family!

I began my career with Home Helpers as a caregiver in 2015. After one year, I was promoted to “On-Call caregiver,” which is like being a utility player, ready to go anywhere at a moment’s notice. This coming February 2023, I will celebrate 10 years with Home Helpers. I joined the company as a part time caregiver at a very pivotal time in my life, when I was going through a divorce. Watching my child float back and forth between his father and me, I was a bit lost. I knew that I needed to care for someone when my son wasn't with me. Although my availability was limited due to commitments at another job, I was welcomed by Home Helpers with open arms, because they knew I had plenty to offer.

My first client changed my life forever. We spent the first hours of every other weekend sharing our lives and she became a guiding force that propelled me to strive for so much more, not only professionally, but personally. I attained my license as a Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.), and proceeded to also get a dual certification in End-of-Life care. Every client I have encountered through my career at Home Helpers has left an indelible mark on my life.

Many years ago, I converted to full-time status, and then was promoted to on-call caregiver. Every step of the way, Home Helpers has given me the opportunity to be the best version of myself. As an employee of Home Helpers, I've been encouraged, supported and empowered professionally, emotionally and spiritually. I'm no longer the lost soul looking for purpose…I found my passion caring for the senior community! I'm grateful for all the opportunities afforded to me by being part of the team at Home Helpers and I look forward to many more years to come.
