- Helping improve caregivers' physical and mental health and reducing their risk of burnout.
- Giving caregivers a break, allowing them to take a vacation, run errands, or take a break from the demands of caregiving.
- Providing the relief caregivers need while allowing them to keep their loved ones at home. This can help keep families together and avoid the stress and heartache of placing a loved one in a care facility.
- Allowing families to create a custom plan that meets their specific needs and allows them to take advantage of the most beneficial services.
- Alleviating the strain caregiving puts on relationships and preserves them by giving both parties some time apart.
IS RESPITE CARE FOR THE ELDERLY ONLY?
No, respite care is meant to provide relief and assistance to many kinds of caregivers providing support and care to their loved one, regardless of age. Respite care can include those caring for loved ones recovering from surgery, end-of-life care, care for people who have disabilities, and more.
WHO PAYS FOR RESPITE CARE?
For most, payment for respite care is out-of-pocket, or privately funded. Some long term care policies might cover respite care, so you will need to speak with your insurance company to find out what payment assistance is possible for your family.
THERE ARE BENEFITS FOR BOTH THE CLIENT AND THE FAMILY CAREGIVER:
- For the client, benefits include increased socialization, and assistance with personal care tasks that are less pleasant for a family member, thus allowing clients to maintain dignity.
- For family caregivers, benefits include time to tend to their own needs, rest, and peace of mind knowing their loved one is with a trained Caregiver.
